De Bamboo Express Reviews (41)
I grew up in Sunset Park with the rest of the Chinese population, and so it was interesting to me to find a place that did Carribean (Guyanaese)/Chinese fusion. I heard whispers of a "Jerk Chicken Lo Mein" being offered, and immediately started salivating at the idea, so my childhood friend and I came to check it out. Both being raised Chinese, we were interested to see how it would differ. We came on a Friday evening, and realised it was your average Chinese takeout joint but with the colours of the Carribeans (yellows and greens). The menu was impressive, we ended up ordering the aforementioned lo mein with an order of ox tail, which came out to ~31$. Even in takeout, everything retained its smell and flavour. We divvied up halves, and still weren't able to finish it all. The jerk chicken had all of the spices you expect, cooked to the right amount of tenderness and heat, but the lo mein provided that textural experience you look for, sopping up that amazing sauce. This dish is truly something else, and I could slap myself for not knowing at it earlier. The ox tail was also AMAZING -- super tender, lots of sauce, and even though we didn't get a side of rice, I just made some on my own and finished it the next day. My only criticism is that the noodles they use are a bit more fettucini-styled than I'd like (flat, thicker noodles, as opposed to rounded, soft lo mein noodles). It's not the biggest deal, and I understand you make do with what ingredients you have. I'll definitely be coming back, and have been waiting all weekend so I can get it for lunch special on Monday. Enjoy! less
Don't let the newer, fancier restaurants popping up along Flatbush Avenue overshadow this hidden-in-plain sight gem. They are consistently banging out traditional Guyanese-style Chinese dishes along with their staple West Indian dishes. For those we are familiar with The Bamboo Restaurant, please don't confuse the two. This one continues to shine while the former has fallen off majorly. All of their dishes are prepared with the traditional Guyanese seasoning. Their fried rice, their shining star on their menu, is perfectly cooked every time. Regardless of what meat or seafood is paired with it, it is a HIT. Their lo mein is pretty good and needs an honorable mention. When I want my food more spicy, I will pour a small amount of their pepper sauce so that I can take the flavor to another level. I often will pair my meal with an order of phoulourie with tamarind sauce which they will warm up for you. Their curry chicken roti is also pretty good. My sister highly recommends it! I would recommend anyone who wants to try Guyanese cooking to definitely stop in for some takeout when you are in the area. The food is always good. The customer service is friendly. The prices are right! You will definitely get your money's worth here especially if you are able to catch their Lunch Special! less
Simply good West Indian and Chinese food. To be clear this is not a new age fusion spot both cuisines are authentic. I have been here several times over multiple years. Not being a Brooklynite my visits are infrequent but I have never been disappointed. Yesterday's visit was no different, I was in the area for lunch so Stew chicken and Callaloo rice was my pick. It has been a long time but the food was still amazing. The service was nice & the place is still well kept. The only difference I notice since my last visit (it's been some time) is that they added a shop at the front of the shop to sell custome jewelry and accessories. If you are not aware of NYC rents and the need for some business to produce extra income this could be a little of putting. HEY AS LONG AS MY FOOD IS STILL GOOD I'm OK WITH IT! less

No frills in and out service authentic Guyanese Chinese food . .I visited for take out today after 8pm. I've been coming to this restaurant for a few years now , and the food is always on point . Well seasoned and lots of flavor. The reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because this time around the food was a bit more spicer than usual, and my spice tolerance level is bare minimum lol. Other than that my family and I enjoyed the food . We order a small curry chicken fried rice and a small house special fried rice DELICIOUS . The total for both meals came up to $30.25 a bit on the pricy side but hey everything has gone up this day and age so I totally understand. Friendly staff as always . It was a pleasure and I will always return. less
